Offering a sacrifice or an aqiqa for a new-born child is the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw)

For a girl, an aqiqa involves the sacrifice of one goat, with the meat being distributed to deprived communities.

It is recommended to perform it within the first week but it can be offered at any point after a child’s birth.
