Vygieskraal Fire

Muslim Hands
The fire that broke out in the informal settlement of Vygieskraal in Athlone killed 2 people. Over 300 shacks were burnt leaving over 600 people homeless. The informal settlement is home to many underprivileged people who are also unemployed and struggling to make ends meet.
Muslim Hands team was on the site of the aftermath to conduct an inspection and to assist the victims of the disaster that destroyed their homes. Food, water, blankets and clothing were noted as the immediate needs of the victims which were then distributed by our team to the community under suffering.
Our teams also conducted food, clothing and blanket distributions to 40 children and mothers from the settlement that were housed at the Lutheran church. The Chairperson of the Western Cape Lutheran Church Association expressed his appreciation as community members were filled with joy and gratitude towards our team for reacting so soon to the emergency.
