KZN Flood Relief: The Impact of your Donations

Aisha Adam

The intense rains in KwaZulu-Natal swept away homes, sunk highways, flooded bridges, and caused 435 fatalities. 6278 people living in informal settlements had their homes and belongings destroyed and were in urgent need of clean water, food essentials and shelter. Alhamdulillah, your donations helped us to attend to the urgent needs of the flood victims and on Friday, 22 April, our teams travelled to KwaZulu-Natal to deliver emergency aid.

Muslim Hands teams distributed aid in several regions across KwaZulu-Natal including: Sanfields, Tongaat, Mount Vernon, Verlumem, Chatsworth, Phoenix, Inanda, Ntuzuma, KwaMashu and Pietermaritzburg.

800 food parcels containing rice, cooking oil, tea, tinned food, salt, sugar and peanut butter were distributed amongst poor and needy individuals in the abovementioned regions. The food parcels contained food essentials to sustain a family of four for an entire month.

Furthermore, our teams also distributed 700 blankets and 200 mattresses to families in need. Many of the residents in the areas affected had lost their homes and belongings to the floods, and were seeking shelter in community halls. Thanks to you, families had means of keeping themselves warm in the harsh weather conditions.

SubhanAllah, this Ramadan, your generosity helped us deliver emergency aid to 1700 victims of the KwaZulu-Natal floods. Your Sadaqah ensured families were looked after and their urgent needs were addressed. We thank you for your kind generosity.
