Press Release: Muslim Hands Responds to Morocco Earthquake
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Morocco. After a devastating 6.8 earthquake struck the region northeast of Marrakech late on Friday night, 8 September 2023. The death toll from the earthquake has mounted to 820 as of Saturday, 9 September at 10am. Injured victims also reached 672 people, including 205 who are in critical conditions.
The Moroccan government has swiftly launched rescue and relief operations, mobilizing resources and aid to the affected areas. International organizations and neighboring countries have also offered their assistance, standing in solidarity with Morocco during this difficult time. The road to recovery will be long and challenging, but with resilience and support, the people of Morocco will rebuild their communities and heal from this tragic event.
THE HUMANITARIAN NEED
Muslim Hands teams are on the ground assessing the urgent need. We have however already established the immediate need for medication, food, water and other emergency supplies. Our dedicated teams are working tirelessly to ensure that these essential supplies are provided to those who need them the most. In coordination with local authorities and other humanitarian organizations, we are rapidly mobilizing resources to address the urgent situation. Our priority is to reach out to the affected communities and provide immediate relief, bringing hope and support to those who have been impacted by this crisis.
