Qurbani: The Greatest Sacrifice
Food security remains a pressing concern in Africa, with millions of people facing chronic hunger and malnutrition. According to a report published by the World Bank, at least one in five Africans goes to bed hungry, and a 140 million people are facing acute food insecurity. In many African countries, poverty and hunger persist due to various factors such as conflict, climate change, and limited access to resources.
Muslim Hands has been working tirelessly to alleviate these challenges by providing sustainable solutions. The Qurbani campaign plays a vital role in achieving this objective, ensuring that nutritious food reaches those who are often overlooked by mainstream aid efforts.
The Qurbani, also known as the Eid al-Adha sacrifice, is an important religious tradition for Muslims worldwide. It commemorates the great sacrifice of the Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) and involves the slaughtering of livestock, such as sheep, goats, or cows. The meat from the sacrificed animals is distributed among the needy, symbolizing the values of charity and generosity.
At Muslim Hands South Africa, we recognise the immense potential the greatest of sacrifices will bring hope and joy to vulnerable families on the day of Eid, and beyond. Through our extensive network and partnerships, we facilitate the Qurbani sacrifice on behalf of individuals and communities who wish to participate. The meat from these sacrifices is then distributed to marginalized and disadvantaged groups, reaching those most in need. By working closely with local communities, governments, and partner organizations, Muslim Hands maximizes the impact of their Qurbani campaign. We conduct rigorous needs assessments to identify areas and populations facing the most severe food challenges. This data-driven approach allows us to allocate resources efficiently, ensuring that Qurbani donations have a far-reaching impact.
Moreover, Muslim Hands prioritizes transparency and accountability throughout their operations. They maintain a robust monitoring and evaluation system, regularly reviewing the distribution process to ensure fair and equitable access to Qurbani meat. This commitment builds trust and strengthens their reputation as a leading humanitarian organization dedicated to making a lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable communities.
Alhamdulillah, we have been distributing your sacrifices for over 25 years and we keep expanding our service! This year, Muslim Hands will be implementing its Qurbani operations in 11 countries including India, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Pakistan, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and The Gambia. If you can’t decide where to give your Qurbani - don’t worry! Simply select our ‘Where Most Needed’ option and our teams will allocate your Qurbani to where it is most needed on the ground.
Our team is currently engaging local farmers to procure the best quality animals and ensuring that they are well looked after and healthy. All animals will be sacrificed strictly in accordance with the Sunnah, and meat will be distributed to beneficiaries, so they too can enjoy the blessings of Eid with their families.
We have a set quota of Qurbanis for each location, so we recommend that you give your Qurbani as early as possible to avoid disappointment. However, you can make your Qurbani order right up until Asr time on the third day of Eid. This is because Muslim Hands has already sacrificed the animals in time for Eid distribution, with the intention that some donors will give their money on the third day.
As we reflect on the spirit of sacrifice embodied by Qurbani, let us remember that our compassion and generosity can have a profound impact on the lives of those in need. The teachings of Islam call upon us to be conscious of the plight of others, to share our blessings, and to strive for justice and equality. We pray Allah (swt) accepts your Qurbani from you and puts barakah in it, Ameen!
