Responding to Crisis: Urgent Relief Needed for Eastern Cape Flood Victims

Severe flooding has ravaged the Kouga Region in the Eastern Cape, leaving a wake of devastation in its path. Streets and homes are submerged, with overturned cars and burst riverbanks painting a grim picture of the disaster. In less than two days, the area has been drenched with more than double the average monthly rainfall, exacerbating an already dire situation. Tragically, fatalities have been reported, adding to the urgency of the crisis.

The local municipality is mobilizing urgent action to aid affected residents in coping with the aftermath of the flooding. In St. Francis Bay, one of the hardest-hit areas, residents have been forced to evacuate to the safety of the local community hall. Disaster teams are tirelessly working to clear waterlogged roads, enabling residents to regain access to their homes and essential services.

In response to this urgent situation, Muslim Hands is rallying support to provide immediate relief to those affected by the flooding. With over two decades of expertise in emergency response, we understand the critical importance of swift action during crises. Our efforts extend beyond immediate relief efforts like distributing food parcels, clean water, and blankets. We also undertake enduring projects to address the challenges that persist in the aftermath of emergencies, such as constructing affordable housing and establishing educational facilities and medical centers.
