Key Facts
Food Poverty in South Africa
By supporting The Open Kitchen, you are ensuring the poor and vulnerable do not go to sleep on an empty stomach. Give today and help feed the hungry!
Over half of the South African population is living below the poverty line and millions of people lack the means to afford food on a daily basis. The harsh lockdowns and heavy rioting have only made matters worse for poor South Africans who have lost their jobs and livelihoods. As a result of the detrimental impact of the pandemic on our economy, millions of South Africans are now faced with hunger and high food insecurity.
Due to the rise of hunger and poverty in the country, Muslim Hands established a community kitchen that will provide nutritious food to vulnerable South Africans. The Open Kitchen provides warm meals to the homeless, elderly, and disabled who are unable to afford food for themselves. By supporting The Open Kitchen, you can help provide warm meals to the vulnerable and poor. Give today and help feed the hungry!

“I Had Nothing to Eat”
“Sometimes we worry where our next plate of food will come from and we go to sleep hungry” -Anthony
Anthony is a 64-year-old man who lives with his two grandchildren in Manenberg, Western Cape. The family lives in a rented wendy house in extremely impoverished conditions. They struggle to source food daily as Anthony has been unemployed for the past five years due to his chronic illness.
Through The Open Kitchen, Anthony and his grandchildren now receive warm nutritious meals on a regular basis, ensuring the family does not go to sleep hungry.
“I want to say thank you very much. You have put a smile on my grandchildren’s faces today. We won’t have to go to sleep hungry tonight. May God bless each one of you” - Anthony
