Ramadan 2026: When Your Giving Became Hope

As we reflect on Ramadan 2026 - a month that passed far too swiftly yet was filled from beginning to end with purpose and devotion - we are reminded of its immense blessings.

This Ramadan you showed us the true power of our ummah and how life changing and transformative sincere giving can be.

Your zakat became a lifeline for impoverished families in South Africa and across the world.

Thanks to you, Muslim Hands South Africa distributed 1,738 Ramadan Food Parcels across South Africa, reaching 8,590 individuals. Each parcel was carefully packed with supplies to sustain a family of five for the month. For them it represented more than food – it brought relief from hunger, restored hope and allowed families to fast with dignity and peace of mind.

As in the case of Saeeda Crotz, a single mother of three, two of them with disabilities. Saeeda and her children had been evicted from their home and were struggling to survive on the odd bits of domestic work Saeeda could secure.

Hopeless and despondent, Saeeda watched Ramadan approach with fear and anxiety.

“I really didn’t know how we were going to make it through Ramadan. We had nothing to eat. Not even a grain of rice. Now we have food so I can use the money I earn to pay rent and put a roof over our heads.”

More than just provide food, you restored stability when everything felt uncertain.

But you compassion didn’t stop there; it extended far beyond our local communities.

Across the globe, a further 2,744 Ramadan Food Parcels were distributed, benefiting 16,115 people in Niger, Mali, India (Kashmir), Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen.

In regions affected by poverty and crises, your generosity became a lifeline, bringing  compassion, dignity and relief to communities where there wasn’t any before.

“Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.” Sunan Ibn Majah 1746

Feeding the fasting as they break their fast holds a special reward in Ramadan. Through
12 iftars you fed thousands of people and shared in the blessings of every single one of them.

Held at masjids, community centres, and a homeless shelter, each iftar brought a sense of comfort and belonging to families and displaced individuals who would otherwise have faced the month alone.

Among the many moments that defined this Ramadan was the Fundraising Iftar in support of the people of Gaza and Yemen who continue to endure unimaginable humanitarian crisis.

Alhamdulillah, in the space of just one evening, more than R112 063,10 was raised. All of which will be directed towards delivering emergency food supplies, medical assistance and life-saving humanitarian relief to vulnerable families in Gaza and Yemen.

As the final ten nights approached, and the blessing of witnessing Laylatul Qadr was within our reach, your giving took on even greater significance.

In this sacred and powerful window, your charity secured the distribution of 375 fitrah parcels. In the days leading up to Eid ul Fitr, our teams took to the vulnerable communities of Philippi, Langa, Manenberg, Heideveld and Hanover Park and distributed to the poorest of the poor - benefiting thousands and ensuring that they would not go hungry on Eid.

Amongst them was Khadija Amisa who had fled the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Struggling to rebuild her life in Langa, she related that there were many days this Ramadan when her family started their day of fasting with nothing to eat - and ended it in the same way.

“That was very very bad. You want to give your children something to eat, but …there is nothing. This parcel means so much. For the first time in days, I can make my family something to eat. Shukran. I am so grateful to every donor.”

You did this - Your giving ensured that the most vulnerable amongst us could celebrate Eid with stability, joy, good food, and dignity. Alhamdullilah.

This Ramadan, your Zakat, Fitrah, and Sadaqah did more than just meet needs—it taught hope, changed lives and uplifted communities near and far.

We thank you for your extraordinary generosity. May Allah (swt) reward you abundantly and increase you in goodness. always. InshaAllah.
