Muharram 1446 Impact: Providing Crucial Relief Across South Africa

Muslim Hands

In the spirit of Muharram, Muslim Hands South Africa has intensified its efforts to address the pressing needs across South Africa. From providing hot meals, blankets and supporting animals in distress, our initiatives have reached thousands of individuals and families impacted by economic hardship and the recent floods.

The Open Kitchen:

In a country where over half the population lives below the poverty line, access to nutritious food remains a pressing issue. During the month of Muharram (July/August), the Muslim Hands SA’s Open Kitchen served over 1,000 hot meals to those in need. This initiative provides essential support to the impoverished, addressing food insecurity to the most vulnerable members of society.

Western Cape Emergency Flood Response:

The Western Cape experienced record-breaking rainfall, with some areas receiving over 300mm of rain. Muslim Hands SA staff and volunteers were deployed to assist those affected by the devastating floods by providing over 2300 hot meals over 4 days. This response highlights the urgent and compassionate relief efforts necessary to support communities facing the aftermath and effects of climate change.

SPCA Relief Efforts:

In addition to addressing human needs, Muslim Hands SA extended its support to our furry friends during this critical time. By proving wet and dry food, over 340 rescued animals received sufficient nourishment for one month. Muslim Hands SA responded to the urgent SPCA call to alleviate the suffering of animals impacted by the recent flooding in the Western Cape.

Eastern Cape Emergency Response:

The Eastern Cape faced significant challenges due to devastating floods, prompting a swift and effective response from Muslim Hands SA. Essential aid was delivered to affected communities, including 1,500 blankets and over 1,400 hot meals. This support provided comfort and relief to individuals and families struggling with the aftermath of the disaster.

Out in the Cold Campaign:

During the harsh winter months, our ‘Out in the Cold’ campaign continued its commitment to supporting the most vulnerable. This year, 500 blankets and 500 hot meals were distributed to those in need in Cape Town. Additionally, in Johannesburg, blankets and 3-month food supply were provided for orphans.

These initiatives reflect the ongoing commitment to addressing the diverse needs of our communities. However, the need in South Africa is growing at an alarming rate and we need your support. Donate Now and save lives today!
