On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him”. [Muslim]
Sadaqah Jariyah literally means ‘a continuous, ongoing, flowing charity’. While Sadaqah benefits the person, who receives it on one occasion, Sadaqah Jariyah continues to benefit the recipient(s) for a long time.

Giving Water: The Best Sadaqah
‘The Messenger of Allah (saw) was asked, “Which charity is best?” He replied, “[Providing] water”’. [Abu Dawud]
Giving water is a basic human right and fulfilling this right is an excellent Sadaqah. Communities who don’t have access to clean water face unimaginable hardships; their health, education and livelihoods suffer, trapping each generation in a tragic cycle of poverty.
Almighty Allah mentions in the Noble Quran, ‘By means of water, we give life to everything’ [21:30].
